Case Study

When Steve called our firm he was anxious and pessamistic about the way his insurance claim would be settled for his home. He had just suffered flood and wind damages for Hurricane Ian. Our team met with Steve at his home the following day and took on the claim from A-Z meaning we filed the claim with the carrier, sketched and did the estimate, made the photo report, contacted the desk adjusters, and negotiated a fair settlement that all sides were happy with.

How It Works

Call us at 786-659-7965 or schedule a complimentary consultation to discuss your insurance claim and policy.

Once we determine your policy has coverage, we will conduct a thorough inspection to evaluate your claim virtually or in-person.

Once we determine your claim is a right fit with our firm, we will send you our contract.

Our team will work on your estimate, photo report, and communicate with your carrier.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a public adjuster?

A public adjuster or public adjusting firm is a licensed and bonded team of experts tasked to indemnify assets such as your home, commercial property, and vessel back to its pre-damage appraisal value.

Because of this, a public adjuster is not a construction or blue-collar contractor, they act more as a financial services professional similar to how you would expect with a CPA, lawyer, advisor, etc.

Give me an example if I don't hire a public adjuster

Not having a public adjuster means you are okay with your settlement. Oftentimes we see our clients realize that the original settlement was not enough to cover half of the repairs necessary to bring the property back to its appraisal value pre-damages.

In this scenario, you are selling your home or commercial property to someone named Jim. Jim does a full walk through of the property and notes cracks in the ceiling, windows with damages, etc.

When he submits his offer to purchase your asset, he deducts $130,000 to the asking price and is justified because of the damages not addressed.

Don't let Jim cost you six figures when hiring a public adjuster indemnifies the asset for you.

What are all the benefits of hiring a public adjuster?

When hiring a public adjusting firm, you get:

  1. A licensed representative advocating on your behalf who understands the value of your assets and how they will depreciate if indemnified incorrectly
  2. The relationships built over the years to negotiate with carriers and industry professionals
  3. The experience of someone you can lean in with questions and advice
  4. Concierge feel of not worrying about claim letters, appointments, calls, emails, etc.
  5. If you are not able to be present for inspections, our team will use your lock box or key to run the event without you needing to be on the premises
  6. In-depth estimate that goes through every detail for indemnification
  7. In-depth photo reports and expert reporting to be presented in your case
  8. Representation during all events such as inspections, negotiations, mediation, trial, depositions, etc.
  9. Detailed inspections minimizing your exposure to dangerous liability
  10. Policy review for new insurance policies
  11. Letter in case your insurance carrier decides to drop you from coverage
  12. Priority as an existing client in the event you need to file a future claim during a state of emergency
How much is a public adjuster?

The fee varies from state to state, but in Florida the fee is 20% of whatever is recovered during the claim process. In the event of a state of emergency, fees are capped at 10%. Fees are paid AFTER claim checks are mailed so you won't need to come out of pocket until there's recovery.

A good public adjuster's fee is irrelevant since they find areas in the claim process you on your own would have missed.

How do I hire a public adjuster?

For our firm, we start with two things: reviewing the insurance policy dated during your loss event, and a virtual or in-person inspection. If we deem your case is valid, we will move to signing a Letter of Representation so we may begin the claim management process.

Call us at 786-659-7965 to get started or email us at claim@excellentstandard.com with your insurance policy and additional information such as when the loss occured, how it happened, and the address of your loss.

What happens once I sign?
  1. We sign our agreement and let the insurance carrier know we represent you
  2. We work on scoping/sketching the property
  3. We take photos and create a photo report
  4. We work on the estimate to send to the carrier
  5. We work on a Proof of Loss document for you to notarize
  6. We speak with the adjuster on when to schedule an initial inspection or reinspection
  7. We negotiate with the carrier on our estimate vs theirs
  8. We either agree on a settlement or reach an empass
  9. If there is no agreement, we work on a reappriasal/umpire decision
  10. If this doesn't work, we recommend you go through other legal options
How long will the process take?

By law the insurance company has a timeframe to determine whether your claim will be covered or not. To be completely honest, this can take anywhere between 2 weeks, 2 months, or 2 years to finalize.

Does the insurance company pay you?

No. In every claim YOU will pay us once a payment to the claim is made. All checks should be made out to Excellent Standard LLC.

How will the check be written?

The check will have ALL interested parties. This means you may see a check with: You (the insured), Excellent Standard LLC (our public adjusting firm), and/or your mortgage company (if you still have one).

How do I deposit this check?
  1. If it gets mailed to you first and you have a mortgage, go ahead and call that mortgage company and ask where to send the check so you can get it signed/endorsed and mailed back to you.
  2. If you don't have a mortgage, or the mortgage has signed it and mailed it back to you, go ahead and mail it to our office at:
    Attention: Excellent Standard LLC.
    490 SW 123 Ave
    Miami, FL 33184
  3. Once it arrives to us, we will sign/endorse it and mail it back to you.
  4. Now that you have the check endorsed, you can go to your local bank and deposit. At this time, we will include our invoice and once your payment clears please write us a check for the amount owed.

Please note, in rare cases banks will not deposit your check. If this is the case our company, Excellent Standard LLC., can deposit the check into our account then write you a check for the percent you are entitled to.

Also, if you have a mortgage or reverse mortgage they oftentimes ask for proof of construction or an inspection to release the funds for your check. It is important to call your mortgage company and ask about the steps to get the check endorsed so you may begin construction.

What if the insurance company doesn't pay anything?

If you don't get paid, we don't either. This means we take on cases where the insurance company SHOULD pay you because they underpaid, delayed, or wrongfully denied your claim.

What are my out of pocket fees?

Emergency mitigation services (which we will work with the carrier on reimbursing you), notary services, and/or hiring an external vendor such as an appraiser, umpire, meteorology report, or law firm. We will advise you at each step if/when hiring anyone else is necessary.

Can I make all of the repairs in the meantime?

Think of this as an investigation. The insurance company needs to visibly see the claim damages before you begin the build-back process in order to approve our estimate. We will work to get an inspection done ASAP.

Aside from emergency mitigation, please hold off on any repairs or work that can hinder the investigation.

How much will my claim get paid out for?

It depends. Our estimate will reveal what the total loss for your property then we will negotiate with the insurance company to get you the answer to your question.

Meet Jorge

Hello, my name is Jorge Mesa (Lic.# W684586) and I am the principal public adjuster at Excellent Standard (Lic.# G096173).

In 2013, I graduated from FIU with a bachelor's in Communication then went on to work as the assitant director of marketing at the University of Miami. From there I worked for FIU's executive leadership programs in a similar role.

So, how did I get started in public adjusting? I was lucky to learn from my mentor, Gio Sanchez. Together we worked all over the state of Florida and that taught me how to help my clients with claim issues at all levels.

Now I'm ready to represent you at my firm. By hiring me you get a proven PA who values you as an extended family member and will always answer you calls, text messages, emails, etc.
